In America, ideas that you create are protected by copyright laws. If you create a book, song, painting, architectural style, or movie then nobody else can make money from that idea without your permission. There are also rules in school that prevent students from copying other people’s writing and submitting it as their own idea.

Fair use: the rules which someone can use something that is copyrighted.
Public Domain: the rights the public has to use copyrighted items.
plagiarism: Taking someones words and using them as your own illegally.
Royalty: A persons collections
